What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic procedures focus on enhancing the natural beauty of your smile. It is also sometimes referred to as aesthetic dentistry. The goal of cosmetic dentistry is to help you achieve greater satisfaction with the appearance of your teeth and feel more confident about your smile.

With the cosmetic dental services provided by our skilled dentists, not only can you look and feel your best, but our aesthetic treatments can also improve the strength and function of teeth.

How Can Oral Health Affect the Appeal of My Smile?

Healthy teeth and gums are essential to having a beautiful, long-lasting smile. Many oral health conditions have side effects that can discolor or otherwise damage your teeth. Problems affecting the gums, such as infections, can also lead to complications that won’t improve with at-home dental care alone.

A strong foundation of established oral health is essential for the success of your cosmetic treatments. In fact, many aesthetic procedures cannot and will not be performed if you have active gum disease or significant damage to your tooth enamel. With that in mind, visiting our North Mankato cosmetic dentists for professional treatment of oral health concerns can help you reach your smile makeover goals as well as help you maintain a healthy mouth.

How Can Cosmetic Dentistry Help My Smile?

Our cosmetic dentists can help you repair, restore, replace, straighten, and improve many aspects of your smile all at once.

With our cosmetic dental services, we can:

  • Whiten stained and discolored teeth
  • Improve tooth size, shape, and strength
  • Reduce noticeable gaps between teeth
  • Correct misalignment and bite issues
  • Repair tooth chips, cracks, and fractures
  • Replace one (or even all) missing teeth

During initial consultations, our dentists examine your teeth and gums for signs of potential concerns and other issues that can affect your overall health. Innovative technologies like high-resolution digital X-rays and 3D jaw scans help detect underlying issues that better allow Dr. Flack and Dr. Schuck to address problems and restore oral health.

Once a strong oral health foundation is established, we’ll work with you to create a cosmetic treatment plan that is entirely tailored to your needs and goals.

Can Anyone Receive Cosmetic Enhancements?

Modern cosmetic dentistry is more comprehensive than ever before. This means that aesthetic treatments are often more affordable and can be tailored to the needs of nearly any smile. Healthy adults, seniors, and teens can all benefit from our cosmetic dentistry services.

Some procedures are suitable for patients under the age of 18. However, they will require a parent or guardian’s consent first.

Professional Teeth Whitening for a Dazzling Smile

With daily eating and drinking, enamel discoloration is inevitable. When consuming dark foods and beverages, their color pigments attach themselves to the surfaces of your teeth, concealing the natural sheen of your tooth enamel over time. Professional teeth whitening uses specialty-grade whitening gels that are formulated to lift years’ worth of staining safely, effectively, and in as little as an hour.

At North Mankato Family Dentistry, we offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening options. For chairside whitening, we provide Philips Zoom! for powerful results often achieved in just 45 minutes. For convenient, at-home whitening, we provide customized kits with Opalescence, allowing you to control where, how, and when you whiten your smile.

Achieving Smile Symmetry with Porcelain Veneers & LUMINEERS®

3d render of dental veneer

When veneers are determined to be the best solution for your needs, our dentists use the innovative technologies of FirstFit and CEREC. Our own Dr. Flack was one of the first dentists in our area to receive his certification in the FirstFit system, which we use to provide us with a step-by-step digital outline of your treatment, resulting in a perfect fit for your veneers.

Our in-house CEREC milling machine allows us to fabricate your veneers within a single office visit, making your treatment even more predictable, effective, and comprehensive.

Dental veneers are thin yet durable shells of porcelain which are placed on the visible surfaces of your teeth to help address numerous smile issues at once. With veneers, our dentists can reduce gaps, conceal chips and cracks, hide deep enamel discoloration, and even help address minor orthodontic issues.

LUMINEERS® are a “non-prep” option of dental veneers that use specific techniques to produce quality results that are quick. LUMINEERS are well-known for balancing a natural appearance with a beautiful “Hollywood” smile.

Invisalign Clear Braced for Virtually Invisible Orthodontics

With its removable, nearly-invisible design, Invisalign is the “clear alternative” to traditional braces. Instead of metal wires, the Invisalign system includes a series of clear plastic trays that use pinpointed pressure to help guide your teeth into proper alignment comfortably. While undergoing treatment, you can remove your aligners during routine oral hygiene, eating, and drinking. However, you’re required to wear your clear trays for up to 22 hours a day to ensure successful results.

During your Invisalign consultation and throughout treatment, we use 3D imaging with Itera to show how your results will look, providing you with straightforward and predictable treatment.

Laser Dentistry with SIROLaser®

Laser dentistry makes it possible to perform a variety of procedures while reducing discomfort, controlling risk, and accelerating patient recovery. SIROLaser® technology dramatically reduces bacteria when treating the gums for periodontal disease.

Laser dentistry can be helpful as a part of your preparation for CEREC same-day crowns. It is also used for gum contouring. Gum contouring is performed by our dentists when there is too much soft tissue around the teeth, causing the appearance of a “gummy-looking” smile.

Rebuilding Smiles After Tooth Loss with Dental Implants

Dental implants consist of body-safe titanium posts that fuse naturally with living bone and tissue once surgically inserted into the jawbone by our experienced dentists. The posts serve as artificial tooth roots and, once your crown, bridge, or denture restoration is attached, any missing teeth in your smile are replaced completely.

Because of their ability to restore missing teeth from root to crown, dental implants can provide you with many benefits. From providing stimulation once more to your jawbone, restoring proper chewing, speaking, and digestion, to preserving natural facial features, dental implants allow you to smile with full confidence.

Restoring Your Smile with Crown, Bridge & Denture Restorations

At North Mankato Family Dentistry, we provide lifelike dental restorations of the highest quality for restoring your smile after tooth loss. Each dental prosthetic we provide is created with prime, body-safe materials known for their abilities to mimic natural teeth and gums.

Our solution for restoring missing teeth include:

  • Porcelain Crowns attached to an implant for replacing a single missing tooth
  • Fixed Bridges for replacing two or more missing teeth ion a row
  • Partial Dentures for restoring multiple teeth lost in the smile
  • Complete Dentures for restoring an entire smile where no teeth remain

Quick Treatment with Quality Same-Day Crowns

in office dental milling machine

CEREC crowns are similar to traditional crowns as they work by encompassing the structure of a weak, worn, or severely damaged tooth. The difference, however, is how they are fabricated.

These tooth prosthetics are produced by your dental team using a special milling machine right here in our office. This technology cuts down on the waiting period to get your crown and means you won’t need to have a temporary placed before your permanent crown. After a digital impression is taken of your tooth, the process of milling your new crown takes as little as a single office visit.

Porcelain Inlays & Onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are also known as partial crowns. They are used in situations where a tooth is too damaged to need a filling, but not so much that a crown is necessary. These aesthetic restorations are crafted outside of the smile and are designed to fit perfectly in certain areas of  teeth where moderate decay was removed.

  • Inlays fit outside the tooth and replace the small cusps
  • Onlays also fit outside the tooth but extend to the chewing surface of back teeth

As with all our cosmetic dentistry treatments, inlays and onlays are made to improve and restore aesthetics. They are both beautiful and functional, so it’s like you are always getting two treatments in one.

White, Composite Fillings

Our team never uses old-fashioned metal or amalgam fillings. Our white fillings mimic the natural sheen, feel, and appearance of teeth. Composite fillings are ideal for repairing small amounts of damage to the enamel as well as evening-out the spaces caused when decay is removed.

Helping Eliminate Dental Anxiety with Dental Sedation
